What you should know about S.TIAHO TRUST
David is an elected Community Board member of the Far North District Council. I have been working in and around the disability sector for 35 years both here in NZ and in the U. I arrived in Whangarei in 1983, working with the community arts council, then the first Women’s Refuge and Rape Crisis Centre in Whangarei. After 3 years of rehabilitation I started a job at CCS with youth and adults. I have a career background within the health sector both adult and paediatric nursing.
I have a genuine interest in both lowering and eliminating the barriers that those with a disability encounter everyday from concrete paths and other tangible ones to those of perspective and attitude the former of which are far easier to eliminate!. Jonny has a unique combination of disability sector knowledge, business skills and first hand experience of disability issues. Jonny completed a postgraduate business diploma in Information Systems in 1995 at the University of Auckland. Prior to becoming CEO of Tiaho Trust he spent three years in management positions with two key organisations within the Northland disability sector.
I also worked in Western Australia for three years during that period, for a Shire Council as a Community Development Youth Grants Officer. Having previously been a volunteer Ambulance Officer in Whitianga for five years and my mother having passed away with MND, my father and myself have hearing problems, I have a sound understanding of the challenges disabled people face. I have been a Board of Trustee for Kelston Deaf Education for the last ten years and am on the Northland Advisory Board for B4 Schools. Being able to contribute to the improvement of the health and wellbeing of people with a disability and be responsive to their needs by providing access to information and services they don’t know about makes my work very rewarding.
I live just north of Whangarei enjoying a quiet country life on a small block. At Tiaho Trust we work together to support and value the impaired or disabled members of our community. Having worked for Tiaho Trust since early 2010, I have had varying roles, before moving into the role of Website istrator. We also have an Events Calendar that keeps people informed of upcoming meetings and social events
